Variban Policy

The VariBan Policy is, at its core, a structured determination in regards to how long a user should be banned, the overall level of ban, and the appeals options available to banned users. Remember that there must be a chain of escalation. One must not jump from a revoke (Vanilla Ball-Peen) right on to a perma (Red Diamond Hammer) without there being an extremely good reason which is well-documented and discussed with other Admins.

Appeal options are up for negotiation as well. If there's a good enough reason, one could argue that a user should not get the chance to appeal due to the severity of the rules violation. However, under no circumstances is the no-appeal caveat to extend beyond one year! Everyone deserves a second chance1.

User must be informed of the dropping Banhammer via Wikidot PM by a member of Security or Policy. This must be announced in the Disciplinary Thread for that user before a different member of either Team drops the Banhammer itself.
The BanHammers:

  • Vanilla Ball-Peen Hammer
    • Membership Revoke Only
    • Used as a first-resort after user ignores warnings and C&D Requests
    • May also be used in case of emergency in order to quickly stop vandalism or roving trolls whilst a full decision is in discussion.
    • User may reapply after 24 hours
    • No appeal
  • White Hammer
    • Forums / Discussions Ban (must be self-moderated)
